BMN HIKE: Belcarra Trails

Saturday, July 22 2017 at 8:30 AM

For the first portion of this hike we will travel on the scenic Jug Island Trail. While traversing the spine of the peninsula, on our way to our destination, we will have Belcarra and Bedwell Bays on either side of us. We will be shaded by a thick forest of cedar, hemlock and fir trees as we approach a wonderful beach to view Jug Island, a tiny gorgeous island, located just off the northern tip of Belcarra Regional Park. Roundtrip distance for this portion of the hike is 5.5 km (3.4 mi) with a cumulative elevation gain of 220 m (720 ft). We will stop at the picnic area of Belcarra Regional Park for lunch. For those wishing to push on, we will continue to Admiralty Point. Admiralty Point is a short hike that offers spectacular views of Deep Cove, Mount Seymour, and Burnaby Mountain across the waterways connecting Burrard Inlet with Indian Arm. Roundtrip distance for this portion of the hike is 3.5 km (2.2 mi) with a cumulative elevation gain of 100 m (330 ft). Meet at 8:30 am. 1/2 day return is 12:30 p.m., with full day return 3:30 pm.
