Join Dave and Gill Richardson, BMN members and avid birders, on a visit to Reifel Bird Sanctuary on Sunday, May 7 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. The Sanctuary is located within the Fraser River estuary in south Delta (Ladner), and is an important area for the millions of birds seeking feeding and resting areas during their annual migrations along the Pacific Coast.
It is an easy walk along flat trails. Bring your binoculars and dress appropriately for walking outdoors on gravel and grassy trails and for changing weather conditions. There will be time after the walk to browse the gift shop and enjoy your packed lunch. You may want to bring a beverage as the gift shop carries only basic snacks such as pop and chocolate bars.
Admission is $5 or $3 for seniors and children. You can also purchase bird seed at the gift shop for $2.
To register, please send an email to Christina Saremba at 2sarembas at gmail or call 604.351.9643. We will meet Dave and Gill at the Sanctuary for 9:45am so that the group can join the guided tour at 10:00am. If you are interested in carpooling from Coquitlam, then park on the road on Runnel Drive by the sports field (parking time is limited in the parking lot). Dave and Gill will be leaving from that location promptly at 8:30am. We suggest a ‘donation’ of $5 from each passenger to their driver. If you are planning to be a driver and are unsure of the route, contact Dave or Gill at gillda at telus net or by phone at 604.461.4873.
The outing will be postponed if the weather is bad. ( Ladner always has better weather than Coquitlam so you may want to check the weather report.)
